The Terra Cotta Warriors

After going to a small terra cotta warrior sculpture factory we took the bus to the famous terra cotta warrior excavation site. Upon arrival, we had a quick lunch and of course the string players had to drop off their instruments in a cool place as well. Then we were rushed back outside for a 30-minute head count (ha-ha!). At the brink of heat exhaustion, we trudged though the 90% humidity to the breathtaking rows of soldiers and horses protecting the tomb of the Emperor Qin. Hearing about the 2,000 year old statues is amazing, but seeing them is an experience that is not to be forgotten. With only an hour and a half to see three pits and a museum, we briskly viewed and photographed the historically imperative discoveries.

First stop, the terra cotta factory where reproductions of all sizes are molded and carved into warriors.

The faces of the warriors were each uniquely carved using a real human model.

After the sites, we met up in the teahouse for a quick tea ceremony and another head count then off to the buses. With the pits not being air conditioned, we were all pretty excited to get back to the bus and go on the overnight train ride.
